Women's Lacrosse Drops Contest to UAlbany

Albany, NY — Niagara women's lacrosse fell to UAlbany 14-9 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at John Fallon Field. 

The Purple Eagles fell to 1-3 on the season while the Great Danes improved to 2-2.

Niagara struck when Maddy Gill found the back of the net at the 10:30 mark to give the Purple Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. 

UAlbany responded with four unanswered goals, including a pair from Amanda Williamson and one each from Kloey Roos and Mya Carroll, to take a 4-1 lead before the midway point of the opening period.

Ashleigh Blanding answered for Niagara with back-to-back goals starting with a free-position shot at 6:02, and added another one at 2:52 to pull the Purple Eagles within one.

The Great Danes closed the quarter with two more goals from Zareena Sorho and Reggie Williams in the final two minutes, sending Niagara into the break trailing 6-3.

The second quarter was one to forget for Niagara's offense. Despite putting nine shots on the day overall, the Purple Eagles were held scoreless in the period.

UAlbany's Jaedyn Frink converted a player-up goal at the 6:51 mark to extend the Great Danes' lead to 7-3 which held until halftime.

UAlbany's Kloey Roos pushed the lead to five at 12:28 before Kensington Keane responded immediately for Niagara, scoring at 11:44 to make it 8-4.

The Great Danes then went on a four-goal run to build a commanding 12-4 lead. 

Niagara refused to go quietly. Michaela Delles tallied a goal off an assist from Emma Alexander at 3:05, Keane converted a free-position shot at 1:55, and Olivia Ng capped the quarter with a goal assisted by Delles at 1:10. The flurry of three goals in the final three minutes cut the deficit to 12-7 heading into the fourth.

Keane struck again at 13:26 in the fourth to make it 12-8, giving her a hat trick on the afternoon. 

UAlbany responded with back-to-back goals from Mya Carroll and Sorho to push the lead back to six. Delles then scored her second goal of the game at 7:14 to set the final margin at 14-9.
