Women's Lacrosse Falls to St. Bonaventure

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Despite a hat-trick from Maive Partlow Niagara women's lacrosse fell to Little Three rival St. Bonaventure 14-6 in non conference action Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field.

St. Bonaventure burst out of the gate, scoring three goals in the opening 3:42 to seize an early lead. Rylee Gonzalez got the Bonnies on the board at the 12:56 mark, followed quickly by Sidney Van Tassel (12:17) and Brooke Piper (11:18) to put Niagara in an early 3-0 hole.

Niagara finally answered at 10:47 when Ashleigh Blanding found the back of the net, but the Bonnies responded with back-to-back goals from Grace Hollenbeck (9:21) and Van Tassel again (6:21) to push the lead to 5-1.

Piper added her second of the quarter at 5:28 before Niagara closed the period with some fight. Maive Partlow scored twice for the Purple Eagles, first off a feed from Avery Olschefskie at 3:27, then again assisted by Blanding at 0:35,  sandwiching a goal by Arianna West off a Riley Milligan assist for Bona. The quarter ended with St. Bonaventure ahead 7-3.

St. Bonaventure was held scoreless for the entire second quarter, while Niagara managed one goal, Olschefskie finishing unassisted at 9:50 to make it 7-4.

Despite the defensive pressure, Niagara could not draw any closer, and St. Bonaventure carried a 7-4 advantage into halftime.

Gonzalez and Van Tassel scored back-to-back for the Bonnies inside the first 3:30 of the third quarter, pushing the lead to 9-4 before Partlow pulled one back for Niagara at 10:39 off a Kensington Keane assist to make it 9-5.

St. Bonaventure capitalized on the power play twice. Megan Schillinger (7:36, assisted by Van Tassel) and Piper (5:43, assisted by Gonzalez). Schillinger added an even-strength goal at 4:37 to close a five-goal third quarter for the visitors. Heading to the fourth, St. Bonaventure led 12-5.

Lily Harris opened the scoring at 12:33 in the fourth-quarter scoring to make it 12-6. The Bonnies answered with back-to-back goals, Gonzalez at 10:13 and a Gracie Williams free-position goal at 6:41, to push the lead to 14-6 and seal the outcome.
