Men's Basketball Falls to Mount St. Mary's

Niagara University, N.Y. – Men's basketball fell to Mount St. Mary's Monday afternoon 68-58 at the Gallagher Center.

The Purple Eagles fell to 5-13, 2-6 MAAC, while the Mountaineers improved to 8-12, 4-5 MAAC.

Niagara came out of the gates on fire with a 14-4 start. Josiah Sabino led the Purple and White with six points, while Vice Zanki and Trenton Walters both hit triples.

The Mountaineers answered back with a 10-2 run of their own to cut the lead down to two at the 8:14 mark. Justin Hawkins three ball stopped the Mount St. Mary's run and led Niagara to a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to grow their lead back to 12.

The Purple Eagles kept a consistent 10 point lead until the four minute mark when the Mountaineers rallied off a 10-4 run to end the half and cut Niagara's lead to four heading into the halftime break.

Mount St. Mary's started off the second half with a 16-3 run in the first six minutes of the half with Will Shortt recording the Purple Eagles lone basket.

Brian Griffith and Reggie Prudhomme cut the Mountaineers lead down to four at the 10:47 mark of the second half.

The Mountaineers went on their second big run of the second half outsourcing the Purple Eagles 13-2 during a five minute span to grow their lead back to 17.

Niagara ended the game on a 14-7 run with Justin Page and Shortt both putting up four points.

Shortt recorded the Purple Eagles first double double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards, leading the team in both
