Niagara Takes Down Mount St. Mary's

Emmitsburg, Md. — Niagara women's lacrosse improved to 6-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play, defeating Mount St. Mary's 12-8 Wednesday at Waldron Family Stadium. 

How it Happened

The Mountaineers got off to a quick start, scoring the first four goals of the game but Niagara made it a one goal game before the end of the first quarter with goals from Jaclyn Crane, Michaela Delles and Giordan Peck.

Hannah Kent knotted the game up at four to begin the second quarter, but Mount St. Mary's reinstated their lead just one minute later. Peck and Delles both recorded their second goals of the contest to give the Purple Eagles the lead heading into halftime.

Delles completed her hat-trick in the third quarter, while Gill beat the Mountaineers goaltender for the first time this game. Mount St. Mary's found the back of the net once in the quarter. 

Peck tallied her hat-trick goal to start the fourth quarter, while Gill recorded three more goals to give the Purple Eagles some insurance goals as Mount St. Mary's found the back of the net twice in the final frame.

Haley Terry got the start in net for Niagara, finishing with four saves.

Niagara Notes

• This was the ninth meeting in program history between the two schools. Niagara now leads 5-4.

• The Purple and White are now tied for second in the MAAC standings.

• Gill extended her team lead in goals to 40 with her sixth hat-trick of the season. 

• Delles has recorded a hat-trick in four of the last five games putting her at 26 on the season.

• Peck's hat-trick tied a career-high in goals, making it the second time she has done so

Up Next

Niagara will head back home for senior day against Quinnipiac, Saturday April 12 at 1 pm. The senior day ceremony will begin at 12:45 pm.
