Niagara Falls Short Against Iona

New Rochelle, N.Y. — Niagara women's lacrosse fell to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play in a hard-fought 8-7 battle against Iona Wednesday at Mazzella Field.

How it Happened

It was a back and forth first quarter with Niagara holding on to the lead 3-2 at the end of the frame. Maddy Gill got things started for the Purple Eagles, scoring 47 seconds into the contest. Olivia Ng found the back of the net on a free position attempt and Lily Harris gave the Purple and White the lead with 49 seconds left in the quarter.

Iona came out firing in the second, scoring the first two goals of the quarter before Michaela Delles tied the game up at four. The Gaels added two more goals to take a 6-4 lead before the halftime break.

Both teams traded a goal a piece in the third quarter with Delles finding the back of the net once again for the Purple Eagles. Iona extended their lead to three in the fourth quarter, while Delles completed her hat trick and Gill got her second of the contest to try and mount a comeback for Niagara but it was not enough as Iona would hold on.
