Niagara University, N.Y. — Niagara women's lacrosse improved to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play, defeating Marist 14-5 in their final regular season MAAC game at Niagara Field.
How it Happened
Niagara got off to a quick start, scoring the only three goals of the first quarter in the first 4:30 of the game. Maddy Gill got things started scoring just 47 seconds into the contest. Avery Olschefskie and Olivia Ng both also found the back of the net in the first quarter.
Marist got on the scoreboard to start the second quarter, but the Purple Eagles answered back with two goals of their own from Jaclyn Crane and Lilly Harris. The Red Foxes found the back of the net once more in the quarter before Michaela Delles recorded her first of the contest to send the game to halftime.
Delles got things started in the second half, while Gill and Emma McGuigan made it a 9-2 game. Marist scored twice in the third, but the Purple Eagles kept the pressure on with Delles beating the Red Foxes goalkeeper three more times in the quarter to extend the lead to six.
Niagara scored the only two goals in the final frame as Ng scored her second of the contest and Gill recorded her hat-trick.
Haley Terry got the start in net for Niagara, finishing with nine saves.
Niagara Notes
• This was the 30th meeting in program history between the two schools. Niagara is now 12-18 against the Red Foxes.
• Gill extended her team lead in goals to 48 with her seventh hat-trick of the season.
• Delles has recorded a hat-trick in six of the last seven games putting her at 24 on the season.
• McGuigan scored her first collegiate goal in the victory.
• Ng recorded back-to-back multi goal games for the first time in her career.
