Gill's Record-Tying Eight Goals Lead Niagara to Overtime Victory Against CMU

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. Maddy Gill tied a program record with eight goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Niagara women's lacrosse earned a thrilling 12-11 victory over Central Michigan Sunday afternoon at Niagara Field.
 
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (3-5) overcame a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, with Gill's record-tying performance powering the comeback against the Chippewas (0-7).
 
Trailing 11-7 early in the fourth quarter, Niagara mounted a furious rally. Michaela Delles, who finished with four goals, scored twice during the comeback before Gill netted the equalizer with 3:20 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
 
Gill's decisive goal came with 3:24 left in the overtime period off an assist from Abberly Dela Rosa, who contributed two assists in the contest.
 
 
The Purple Eagles outshot the Chippewas 42-28 and controlled 15 draw controls to CMU's 10. Haley Terry made nine saves in goal for Niagara to earn the win.
 
CMU was led by Skye DePrado with four goals and Kelsey Barratt with three.

• Sunday marked the first-ever meeting between NU and CMU.
• The midfielder's eight-goal outburst ties the Niagara single-game record, matching Andra Savage's eight goal effort at Canisius last season.
• As a team, Niagara set team-high's in points (18), goals (12), shots (42), and shots on goal (29), while matching its season-best with six assists.
• Dela Rosa became the third Purple Eagle to record two assists in a game this season.
Sydney Huhtala had three caused turnovers giving her three or more in six of seven games this season.
• Niagara is 1-1 at home this season and 19-6 at Niagara Field over the last four seasons.
• Sunday's overtime contest was NU's first since March 17, 2024 against Columbia.
