Niagara Rallies to Defeat Battle of the Bridge Rival Canisius

Niagara University, N.Y. — Niagara women's lacrosse improved to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a 11-10 comeback victory over Canisius on Saturday at Niagara Field.

How it Happened

Canisius got off to a quick start in the first quarter, scoring the first four goals of the game and totaling five. Abberly De La Rosa got the Purple Eagles lone goal of the quarter.

The Golden Griffins added more fuel to the fire going up 8-3 at the halftime break with Avery Olschefskie and Maddy Gill each tallying goals for Niagara.

Niagara controlled the second half, making it a one goal game to end the third quarter with Michaela Delles recording a hat trick, while De La Rosa and Olschefskie both put up their second goals of the contest.

The fourth quarter was back and forth with there only being three combined goals, starting with Jaclyn Crane recording her first goal of the season to knot the game up at nine. Delles gave the Purple Eagles the lead with 1:17 remaining in the quarter, but Canisius tied it up at 10 with a free position goal just 41 seconds away from the final buzzer.

Gill gave Niagara the victory in overtime just 38 seconds into the frame, solving Canisius goaltender Olivia Licardi for the second time in the game.

Niagara goalkeeper Haley Terry finished with 10 saves to earn the win.

• This was the 34th meeting in program history against Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius.

• The Purple Eagles now have won six of the last seven meetings against the Golden Griffins.

• Niagara has won seven-straight league games dating back to April 6, 2024.

• The Purple and White put up double-digit goals in five games this season.

• Gill's two goals put her at a team-best 29 on the season, sitting second in the conference.

• Delles tied a season-high with her four tallies in the victory to put her at 19 this season.
