On Wednesday evening, the 2025 Niagara University Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming and Diving Champions were welcomed to Niagara Falls City Hall by a proud Niagara University alumni, city of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino. The visit celebrated the historic championships that marked the first time since 2008 that one MAAC program captured both the men's and women's championships in the same year. In mid-February, the Niagara men won their first MAAC title since 1994, while the women captured their second consecutive championship and third in four years.
The teams had a chance to meet and take pictures with Mayor Restaino during their time at City Hall. MAAC Coach of the Year
Eric Bugby presented the Mayor with an official Niagara swim cap featuring his last name.
Additionally, the teams were recognized by the Niagara Falls City Council at the beginning of their meeting with a reading by Niagara University alum and City Council Chairperson Jim Perry of a proclamation from the Mayor that outlined all the team's accomplishments in their historic championship season.
Head Coach
Eric Bugby commented, "I want to thank Mayor Restaino, and the Niagara Falls City Council members for this unique and incredible distinction. I'm lucky to coach such a hardworking, driven, and fun group of student-athletes who represent Niagara University at the highest level. We can't thank the city of Niagara Falls enough for recognizing what our men and women achieved this year."
