Comeback Effort Falls Short Sunday in Emmitsburg

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Despite a late ninth-inning rally, Niagara baseball fell to Mount St. Mary's 8-5 on Sunday at E.T. Family Stadium.
 
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (4-15) scored four runs in the ninth inning but couldn't overcome an 8-1 deficit. Curtis McKay hit a two-run homer and Elijha Hammill added an RBI double in the final frame.
 
Niagara struggled offensively for most of the game, managing just four hits total while drawing 10 walks. The Purple Eagles didn't score until the fourth inning when Jason Green's RBI single drove in Rees Kozar to make it 2-1.
 
Mount St. Mary's (10-12) pulled away with two runs in both the third and fifth innings before adding four more in the seventh. Nolan Book and Mikey Rodriguez each homered for the Mount, while Evan Meier drove in three runs.
 
Nate Bennett (0-5) took the loss for Niagara, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings. Eli DeRossi (1-1) earned the win for the Mount despite allowing four runs in 4.1 innings of relief.
