Jaspers Pull Away From Purple Eagles

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Despite a balanced scoring effort, Niagara fell to Manhattan 85-70 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
 
How it Happened
Olumide Adelodun led the Purple Eagles (10-19, 5-13 MAAC) with 16 points, while Jaeden Marshall added 15 points and five rebounds. Josiah Davis contributed 11 points off the bench for Niagara, which has now dropped four consecutive games.
 
Manhattan (15-12, 10-8 MAAC) used a strong second half to secure the victory, outscoring Niagara 47-37 after intermission. The Jaspers were paced by Wesley Robinson's 16 points, while Devin Dinkins added 15 points and seven assists off the bench.
 
The Purple Eagles stayed competitive throughout the first half, trailing just 38-33 at the break. Manhattan's efficiency proved decisive as the game wore on, with the Jaspers shooting 52.8 percent from the field and connecting on 10-of-23 attempts from beyond the arc.
 
Jhaylon Martinez added nine points and six rebounds for Niagara, while Justin Page chipped in nine points on efficient 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
 
The Purple Eagles stayed within striking distance until midway through the second half when Manhattan used a 12-4 run to build a double-digit lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Jaspers' largest advantage reached 19 points with just over a minute remaining.
 
Niagara shot a respectable 51 percent from the field but was undone by 13 turnovers that Manhattan converted into 13 points.

• The Purple Eagles move to 37-62 following Sunday's loss to Manhattan.
• Sunday's loss was Niagara's 13th MAAC loss of the season, marking the programs first season with 13 or more losses in league play since 2016-17 when it dropped 14.
• Sunday marked just the second time this season that Niagara lost when shooting over 50.0 percent from the field.
• Adelodun led Niagara in scoring for the seventh time this season while reaching double-digit points for the 15th time.
• Davis recorded double figure scoring numbers for the fifth time over the last eight games.
