NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Despite a hat trick from
Avery Olschefskie, Niagara women's lacrosse fell to Arizona State 15-9 in their home opener Sunday afternoon at Niagara Field.
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (0-1) kept pace early, taking a 3-2 lead in the second quarter after goals from
Hannah Kent and
Olivia Ng. However, Arizona State (1-0) responded with a decisive 7-1 run in the third quarter to pull away.
Michaela Delles added two goals for Niagara, while Ng also finished with two scores. Goalkeeper
Haley Terry recorded six saves for the Purple Eagles.
Arizona State's Teagan Ng led all scorers with four goals, while Jordyn Behar orchestrated the Sun Devils' offense with six assists.
Niagara showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Arizona State 5-3 in the final period. Olschefskie completed her hat trick and Delles added her second goal in the late push.
