ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. —
Maddy Gill scored five goals and
Haley Terry made 16 saves to lead Niagara to a 6-5 victory over St. Bonaventure in a Little Three women's lacrosse rivalry game Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
Gill, who converted both of her free-position shots, powered the Purple Eagles (1-1) to their first win of the season despite being outshot 31-19 by the Bonnies (1-2).
Terry's strong performance in goal included several crucial stops as St. Bonaventure mounted a fourth-quarter comeback. The Bonnies scored four times in the final period but couldn't overcome the Purple Eagles' 4-1 lead entering the quarter.
Giordan Peck added Niagara's other goal, while
Sydney Huhtala anchored the defense with five ground balls and six caused turnovers in the bitter cold conditions, with temperatures hovering around 22 degrees.
St. Bonaventure's Brooke Piper netted a hat trick, including a free-position goal with 3:04 remaining that cut the deficit to one, but the Purple Eagles held on for the victory.
