Hockey Falls Short Against Holy Cross

Worcester, Mass. – Niagara hockey dropped the weekend series to Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon falling 6-2 to the Crusaders at the Hart Center. The loss drops Niagara to 3-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play, while the Crusaders improved to 5-5-1 (5-1-1).

Holy Cross struck just 15 seconds into the game. Jack Stockfish capitalized on the opening faceoff, converting assists from Owain Johnston and Jack Seymour to give the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead.

Owen Kim extended Holy Cross' lead to 2-0 at 15:12, finishing off a rush with help from Ty Gagno and Connor Welsh. The Purple Eagles headed to the first intermission down two goals despite outshooting their opponents 16-10.

Niagara broke through early in the middle frame when Ethan Lund scored his first goal of the season at 2:25, with Cameron Eke and Declan McDonnell earning assists. The tally cut the deficit to 2-1.

Noah Hackett delivered at 8:10, blasting home a power play goal with assists from Glebs Prohorenkovs and Mitchell Becker to tie the game 2-2.

Holy Cross responded with four unanswered goals to put the game away. Matt DeBoer netted the game-winner on the power play at 12:27, assisted by Timothy Heinke and Stockfish. Michael Abgrall added two goals, including an empty-netter, while Jarrod Smith capped the scoring with another power-play marker with just 20 seconds remaining.

Deivs Rolovs made 33 saves in a losing effort for Niagara.
