Declan McDonnell scored twice, including the game-winning goal, as Niagara defeated Army West Point 6-4 Friday night at Dwyer Arena in Niagara University, N.Y.
Niagara controlled the game from the opening period, with
Hunter Wallace scoring the first goal at 6:38.
Lane Brockhoff and
Mitchell Becker added the helpers on Wallace's goal. Brockhoff won a puck battle behind the net and found Wallace at the left circle and put it into the back of the net, to put the Purple and White up 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Declan McDonnell added the Purple Eagles second goal with
Ethan Lund and
Jacob Maillet recording the assists. Maillet found Lund at the point, Lund dished the puck in a spot for McDonnell to tip it past the Black Knights goaltender.
Nathan Oickle picked up Niagara's third goal at the 13:07 mark in the second period. Maillet found
Maxim Muranov then dished to Oickle at the point for his first goal of the campaign.
Army found their first goal in at 15:52 in the second period to cut the Purple Eagles lead to 3-1.
Spencer Young added a power-play goal just 16 seconds into the third period, and Muranov capped the scoring with his second point of the night.
