Niagara Univerisity, NY - Men's basketball fell to Detroit Mercy 70-66 Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
The visiting Titans improved 2-6 on the season, while the Purple Eagles fell to 2-5.
Justin Page got Niagara their first basket of the contest with a fast-break layup assisted by Reggie Prudhomme to give the Purple Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Zanki hit a crucial three-pointer to tie the game at 13-13, but Detroit Mercy used an early run to build a 19-15 advantage midway through the half.
The Titans grew their lead to 38-29 to end the first half.
The Purple Eagles immediately cut the deficit, with Justin Hawkins scoring on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 40-36 early in the half.Â
The Purple Eagles' generated a steal by Prudhomme at the 10:49 mark, leading to Drew Larson's three-pointer that cut the lead to 53-47.
Sabino found his rhythm after a quiet first half, scoring 6 of his team-high 6 points in the period, including back-to-back layups.
Prudhomme hit a three-pointer with 2:59 remaining to cut the deficit to 61-56, and his fast-break layup with 29 seconds left brought Niagara within 65-63 after converting the and-one opportunity.
The Purple Eagles had multiple chances to complete the comeback, but ultimately fell 70-66.
