Durham, NC - Niagara fell 100-42 to fifth-ranked Duke, in head coach Greg Paulus' return back to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday night. The Purple Eagles fell to 2-3 on the season while the Blue Devils improved to 6-0.
Duke got out to a 10-3 lead before the first media timeout with Trenton Walters scoring the lone basket for Niagara. Walters hit a second triple at the 14:21 mark, to make it a 15-6 Blue Devils lead.
Walters led the way with nine first-half points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Justin Page added a triple and two free throws to chip in five points. Niagara grabbed four offensive rebounds, with Kabeya Tshibangu pulling down two.
The Purple Eagles headed to the locker room trailing 47-19.
Duke opened the second half on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 57-21. Walters remained a consistent threat, burying two more three-pointers in the period to finish with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from deep.
Tshibangu threw down a dunk and Vice Zanki converted a pair of free throws halfway through the contest, but the Purple Eagles couldn't sustain any momentum. Will Shortt provided five points, two rebounds, a block, and a steal, while Justin Hawkins added four second-half points, including a traditional three-point play.
The Blue Devils kept the pressure on the remainder of the second half to take the game 100-42.
