Jersey City, NJ – Niagara defeated Saint Peter's with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-18, 28-26) at the Yanitelli Center on Saturday afternoon, improving to 11-3 in conference play.
Set One
Niagara established control early, turning a tight 3-3 contest into a 7-4 lead. Noel Perkins sparked a decisive run with back-to-back service aces, pushing the Purple Eagles ahead 7-4. Sydney Wilkes emerged as the go-to attacker, recording multiple kills as Niagara pulled away.
The Peacocks tried mounting comebacks, but the Purple Eagles held strong with kills from Liana Tolliver and Payton Lee to extend their lead to 19-12.
Niagara scored five of the final six points of the set off of kills from Sydney Wilkes, Payton Lee and Janiah Robinson alongside aces from Tolliver and Kylie Blessing.
Set Two
Saint Peter's got out to a 5-3 lead to start the second set. Niagara bounced back with a three point run to take a 6-3 lead with a kill and an ace from Kinga Wronska.
Saint Peter's briefly got out to a 14-13 lead but the Purple Eagles got a six point run to go up 23-16 behind kills from Wilkes and Tolliver and two aces from Mia Schaefer.
Niagara held on to take the second set 25-18 off a Peacocks service error.
Set Three
Niagara jumped ahead 4-1 early, but Saint Peter's battled back to make it a 6-6 game.
The Purple Eagles gained a 15-9 advantage with kills from Tolliver, Wilkes and Blessing.
Niagara led 21-17, the Peacocks mounted a rally to tie the match at 23-23. The teams traded points to 26-26.
Robinson delivered a crucial kill to make it 27-26, and Taylor Jenkins sealed the sweep with a kill off a Blessing assist for the 28-26 victory.
