Volleyball Sweeps Marist

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Women's volleyball completed the weekend sweep by defeating Marist in straight sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-22) to improve to a 9-2 conference record inside the Gallagher Center Saturday afternoon.

Set One

Marist built an early 7-3 lead, but Niagara came back with kills from Liana Tolliver, Kinga Wronska and a service ace from Mia Schaefer to take a 9-8 lead.

The Purple Eagles continued that momentum to gain a 21-17 advantage. The Red Foxes ended up knotting the set up at 24-24.

Janiah Robinson and Payton Lee combined for a block to make it 25-24 before Marist committed an attack error to seal the 26-24 victory for the Purple Eagles.

Set Two

Niagara jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and grew the lead to 11-6 with kills from Wronska, Tolliver, Robinson and an ace from Kylie Blessing.

Noel Perkins delivered a service ace to push the lead to 19-13. The Purple Eagles closed the set with authority, allowing Marist just three points over the final stretch taking the final set 25-17 with kills from Sydney Wilkes and Tolliver.

Set Three

Marist came out in the final set building early leads of 5-2 and 11-7, but Robinson and Wilkes delivered back-to-back kills to spark a comeback.

Wronska delivered an ace that deflated Marist's momentum and gave Niagara an 18-17 lead. Lee and Taylor Jenkins then combined for yet another block to push the lead to 22-20, forcing a Marist timeout. 

Wilkes then recorded the final point of the game with a kill off an assist from Perkins for the sweep.

Game Notes

Niagara is now 31-23 all-time against Marist

The Purple Eagles have now won three straight against the Red Foxes

Wilkes led the Purple and White with 12 kills in the victory

Lee and Robinson both recorded four blocks
