East Lansing, MI—The Niagara baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end on Friday to Big Ten foe Michigan State. The Purple Eagles fell 9-0 to the Spartans.
How it Happened
The first three innings were scoreless for both teams as Michigan State was held to just one hit through three innings. Niagara had a pair of hits through the first three innings.
Michigan State opened the scoring in the fourth inning as two runs scored on back-to-back hit by a pitches with the bases loaded.
The Spartans made it a 6-0 game in the fifth inning on three hits, a Niagara error, and a wild pitch.
The Purple Eagles looked to respond in the top of the sixth inning as the Purple Eagles loaded the bases with no outs. Despite having the bases loaded the Purple Eagles could not get on the board.
Michigan State added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 9-0.
Niagara could not get on the board in the eighth or ninth inning as Spartans took the win.
Niagara Notes
· It is the first time since 2018 that Niagara has played Michigan State.
· Brady Desjardins had two hits to lead Niagara, Nick Groves, Vincent Mauro, and Nick Monile each had a hit.
· It is Desjardins' 10th multi hit game of the season.
· Maximilian Ramirez IV started on the mound and went 3.2 innings; he allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three batters.
· Liam Reynolds went one inning out of the bullpen and allowed one unearned run.
· Steven Hospital pitched a scoreless inning while allowing one hit and striking out one.
· Evan Wilde got the last five outs for Niagara as he pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings while allowing just one hit, he struckout two.
· Eric Rataczak was hit by a pitch in the game which extended his on base streak to 26 games.
· With his hit, Monile extended his hit streak to 14 games.
