LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena erased a six-goal Niagara lead to earn an 11-10 win over the Purple Eagles Wednesday afternoon in MAAC women's lacrosse action from Hickey Field. Niagara drops to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in MAAC play, while the Saints improve to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in league action.
Rachel Crane led Niagara with five points on two goals and three assists while
Andra Savage recorded a team-best three goals.
Lois Garlow and
Lexi Braniecki each scored twice and
Maddy Gill found the back of the net once in the loss.
Jordan Roy made eight saves in goal for Niagara.
Siena was led by Elizabeth Wamp and Rebecca Gilhooley who each recorded three goals in the win. Grace Dobrzynski finished the game with four assists. The Saints used two goalies in the contest, with Sabrina Krasner making the start before being relieved by Shaylin Romero. The duo finished the contest with four saves.
How it Happened
Niagara opened the scoring at the 13:49 mark of the first quarter, when Braniecki scored, and would lead 5-2 by quarters end as Crane, Garlow, and Gill each tallied at least one goal in the opening quarter.
The Purple Eagles would score three-straight to start the second quarter, which capped off a 5-0 scoring run, and gave Niagara an 8-2 lead with 11:03 to play in the first half. Savage scored the first two of the frame, with the third coming from Garlow, giving NU its largest lead of the contest.
From there, Siena would score six-straight, including four-straight to end the first half and the lone two goals of the third to tie the contest at eight apiece heading into the final 15-minutes of action.
Niagara would retake the lead momentarily, when Savage scored the ninth goal of the contest for NU, 44-seconds into the fourth. However, Siena would answer right back, scoring three-straight over a 2:35 span to take an 11-9 lead with 10:31 to play.
The Purple and White would get one back with 8:11 remaining, making it a one-goal contest, but they failed to find the back of the net on their final four shots of the contest, falling to the Saints, 11-10.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara moves to 16-13 all-time against Siena.
• Savage recorded three goals for her 11th multi-goal game of the season. The Palmyra, N.Y., native led Niagara on the draw with three, giving her a team-best 40 on the season.
• Savage now has 96 career goals and is seven back of Carrie-Jo Farrugia (103) for 10th all-time.
• Crane's three assists matched her season total coming into the contest. The Rochester, N.Y., product also led NU with three ground balls, her third game this season with at least three.

Sydney Huhtala recorded her eighth game this season with multiple caused turnovers.
• With her three points in the contest, Garlow takes sole possession of third all-time with 205 and is now 12 behind Caroline Crump for second-most all-time in program history.
• Latray's one assist gives her 80 career helpers, becoming the third Purple Eagle in program-history to record 80 career assists.
