Loudonville, NY—The Niagara baseball team suffered its first MAAC loss of the season on Sunday. The Purple Eagles fell 5-0 to the Siena Saints.
How it Happened
Siena opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as they scored using two hits and a Niagara error.
The Saints added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as they used a pair of hits to manufacture a run to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Saints added a pair of insurance runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Niagara broke up the Siena no-hitter in the top of the eighth as Vincent Mauro singled. After an out, Matt Ward walked to put a pair of runners on base, however, Niagara could not push a run across.
Niagara looked for a rally in the ninth as Brady Desjardins opened the inning with a single. Niagara could not get on the board as the Saints took the 5-0 win.
Niagara Notes
· Gage Wheaton started on the mound for the Purple Eagles. Wheaton went five full innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out five strikeouts.
· Noah Richardson got the final two outs of the sixth inning as he needed just seven pitches to get a groundout and a strikeout.
· Zach Cameron dominated the final 1.2 innings for the Purple Eagles. He faced the minimum number of batters as he notched three strikeouts, one groundout, and one flyout.
· Mauro reached base three times for the Purple Eagles as singled while drawing two walks.
· Despite the loss, Niagara still won the weekend series, they have won four MAAC weekends this season and seven total series' this season.

The Purple Eagles are back on the field on Friday as they travel to Rider to take on the Broncs in a battle of the top two teams in the MAAC. Both teams enter the three-game series with a MAAC record of 11-1. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 PM.
