NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Despite a strong start and a resilient performance, the Niagara Purple Eagles fell 4-2 to Union College on Friday night at Niagara University.

Jay Ahearn's power-play goal gave Niagara (7-6-3) the early momentum, converting at 3:02 of the first period off crisp passing from
Trevor Hoskin and
Tyler Wallace.
The Purple Eagles stayed competitive throughout, with
Glebs Prohorenkovs netting his fourth goal of the season in the second period to keep the game within reach.
Union (8-3-1) countered with goals from Nick Young and Caden Villegas in the first period, while Carter Korpi's eventual game-winner came at 5:05 of the second.
Jacob Jeannette's empty-netter with 12 seconds remaining sealed the outcome.
Deivs Rolovs turned in a solid 25-save performance for Niagara, while Kyle Chauvette stopped 31 shots for Union.
The Purple Eagles showed discipline throughout, drawing two power plays while not serving a single penalty minute.
