Niagara Drops One at Dwyer

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.— Josh Nixon and Barandon Buhr both scored two goals as Union defeated Niagara 5-3 on Saturday night at Dwyer Arena.

How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (7-7-3) got goals from Jay Ahearn, Brett Roloson and Noah Hackett but couldn't overcome Union's balanced attack despite outshooting the Garnet Chargers 35-22.

Ahearn opened the scoring for Niagara on a power play at 9:31 of the first period, assisted by Ross Roloson and Braden Doyle. However, Union (9-3-1) responded with goals from Nixon in both the first and second periods to take control.

Brett Roloson brought Niagara within one, 3-2, with his first goal of the season at 14:18 of the second period, with assists from Luke Mylymok and Spencer Young. However, Union pulled away in the third period as Buhr scored twice, including an empty-netter.

Hackett added a late goal for Niagara at 17:26 of the third period, his fifth of the season, but the Purple Eagles couldn't complete the comeback.

Pierce Charleson made 30 saves for Niagara in the loss. The Purple Eagles went 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off three of Union's four power play opportunities.
