ERIE, Pa. -- Boris Skalos scored a power-play goal 1:49 into overtime to lift Mercyhurst to a 4-3 victory over Niagara in Atlantic Hockey action Saturday night from the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Purple Eagles (4-3-2, 3-1-1 AHA) erased three separate one-goal deficits throughout the game but ultimately fell when
Alex Murray was called for tripping in the extra period, setting up Skalos' game-winner.

Noah Hackett netted the final equalizer for Niagara with 5:42 remaining in regulation, converting off assists from
Spencer Young and
Noah Carlin to make it 3-3.

Shane Ott opened the scoring for the Purple Eagles late in the first period to tie the game 1-1, and Lars Rodne gave Niagara its only lead at 2-1 early in the second period off a feed from Ott.

Pierce Charleson made 17 saves for Niagara, which outshot Mercyhurst 40-21 but struggled to solve Lakers goaltender Simon Bucheler, who finished with 37 saves.

The loss snapped a three-game unbeaten streak for the Purple Eagles, who remain in the top half of the Atlantic Hockey standings despite the setback.
