Purple and White Top Mercyhurst Friday Night

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.- Five different Purple Eagles found the back of the net as Niagara soared to a 5-3 victory over Mercyhurst in Atlantic Hockey America action Friday night on Monteagle Ridge. 
 
How it Happened
Atlantic Hockey America's Rookie of the Month for October, Trevor Hoskin, initiated the scoring less than a minute into the game, with assists from Jay Ahearn and Braden Doyle.
 
The Purple Eagles continued their momentum with Tyler Wallace and Nathan Oickle finding the back of the net in the second period, followed by goals from Glebs Prohorenkovs and Lars Rodne in the third.
 
The Purple Eagles maintained offensive pressure throughout the contest, recording 31 shots on goal, with their most productive period coming in the second frame with 14 shots.
 
Prohorenkovs had a particularly impactful performance, earning first-star honors with a goal and an assist while contributing defensively with four blocked shots. Pierce Charleson rounded out a solid team defensive effort that successfully killed both penalties faced during the game en route to a 40-save performance.
 
The victory caps of a 2-0-1 three game homestand for NU.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara is now 26-20-7 all time versus Mercyhurst, including 14-8-4 at Dwyer Arena.
• Hoskin is on a seven-game point streak, collecting a total of 11 points.
• Carlin is on a three-game point streak with a total of four points.
Jay Ahearn has collected his eighth point versus Mercyhurst in only six games.
Shane Ott now has 12 points in 11 games in his career against the Lakers.
• Charleson recorded a season-high 40 saves.
