Purple Eagles Drop Midweek Match to Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Niagara women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Marist in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at Tenney Stadium.
 
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (5-6-2, 0-2-1 MAAC) were unable to find the back of the net despite outshooting the Red Foxes 8-7 in the second half. Niagara goalkeeper Maddie Crosbie made six saves in the losing effort.
 
Marist (3-8-2, 3-4-1 MAAC) struck early when Sofia Cassano scored just 1:41 into the match off an assist from Jillian Garcia. The Red Foxes doubled their lead in the 68th minute as Anna Maggi found the net with help from Lauryn Schmidt.
 
Emma Bough led Niagara's attack with two shots, including one on goal. Maia MacLean also recorded three shots for the Purple Eagles.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara and Marist have met 28 times, including Wednesday's matchup. The Purple and White are now 13-13-2 all-time against the Red Foxes.
• Niagara's winless streak moves to seven, while its scoreless streak is up to 505 minutes.
• NU was held to two shots on goal in the contest, its third such game during its seven-game winless streak.
• Crosbie made six saves, giving her 75 on the season, the most by a Niagara keeper since Sabrina Locas stopped 83 in 2019.
