NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - The Niagara University men's soccer team fell to Iona 5-1 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at Niagara Field.

How it Happened
Despite a strong second-half effort, the Purple Eagles (2-7-2, 0-2-1 MAAC) couldn't overcome an early deficit against the Gaels (4-3-3, 2-0-1 MAAC).

Iona opened the scoring in the 19th minute and extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second half. Niagara's
Lucas Fenton breathed life into the home side, netting a goal in the 53rd minute off an assist from
Gianluca Del Priore to cut the deficit to 2-1.

However, the Gaels responded with three unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Niagara's offense showed signs of life in the second half, outshooting Iona 9-3 after the break. The Purple Eagles finished with 12 shots total, six on target.
