Purple Eagles Dominate Golden Griffins

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara men's and women's swim programs took on Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius Saturday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center on the campus of Niagara University.
 
Niagara saw a total of six pool records and 14 program records fall in the dual meet.
 
Women's Recap
Niagara started the day with the 200 medley, setting a pool and program record mark of 1:43.40 for the win as Paige South, Alaina Pitton, Baileigh Racky, and Megan Jackson set the programs newest benchmark.
 
The first record to fall on the afternoon for the women's team was the 200 medley relay as Paige South, Alaina Pitton, Baileigh Racky, and Megan Jackson recorded a time of 1:43.40 to spark what would end up being a near sweep of events for the women, as the Purple Eagles took the top spot in 13 of 14 events.
 
Pitton would win three individual events on the day, the first being the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.81, followed by the 200 breast with mark of 2:16.40, and lastly the 200 IM un 2:06.56. Her times in the 100 and 200 breast were both pool and program records, while her 200 IM time was fast enough for the Oxy Aquatic Center record. The freshman also set a program and pool record in the 50 breast with her split of 28.72 in the 100 breast.
 
South won back-to-back events, the 50 and 100 free. In the 50 free she recorded a time of 23.78 to take the top spot, followed by a time of 51.68 in the 100 free. South also set the pool and pool benchmark in the 50 free with her time of 26.26 to start the 200 medley relay.
 
Freshman Mary Carl and Baileigh Racky would each win a pair of events. Carl notched wins in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.56 and the 500 free with a pool and program record time of 5:00.92. Racky, who was a member of the 200 medley relay earned individual wins in the 100 back (58.17) and 200 back (2:03.38).
 
Maggie Marody dominated the 1000 free with a time of 10:39.30, beating out teammate Avery King for the top spot.
 
The women's team would cap off the meet with another Oxy Aquatic Center record time of 1:35.39 in the 200 free relay as Jackson, Lila Maddux, Claire Gorton, and South teamed up to take the top spot.
 
Men's Recap
Just like the women's team, the men started the day off with a win and Oxy Aquatic Center record in the 200 medley relay as Reid Tichy, Sean Finley, Gio Germano, and Nathan Dragon posted a time of 1:31.64 to set the program record.
Finley would go on to win three individual events, the 200 IM, 200 breast, and 100 breast. His times of 55.81 and 2:03.02 in the 100 and 200 breast events were fast enough for the pool records.
 
Dragon took the top spot in two events, including the 200 free with a time of 1:42.71, followed by the 500 free in 4:47.63.
 
The men would set a program record in the 200 free relay as the quartet of Levi Morgan, Tichy, Jake Wade and Dragon recorded a time of 1:23.00
 
Morgan won the 50 free with a pool record time of 20.76
 
Jake Lauzonis, who finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 57.26, set the pool record in the 50 breast with his 26.04 his first time down the lane. Freshman Nate Eaton won the 1000 free with a time of 10:03.96.
 
Up Next
Niagara will host a meet on Jan. 26 against Le Moyne, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The meet marks the end of the women's season.
