Men's Swimming

Women Win All 14 Swimming Events, Break 6 Pool Records in route to Victory, Men grab 5 wins, come up just short

Syracuse, N.Y. - Niagara women's swimming took all 14 events as they defeated Le Moyne 188-100 while the men took five events as they fell narrowly 136-155 at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool in Syracuse, N.Y.

The Purple Eagles dominated from start to finish for the women. Their 200 Medley Relay quartet of Killion, Pitton, Vo, and Jackson finished first in a pool-record time of 1:46.28. And the women never looked back. Of the 13 event wins that followed, six saw the Niagara women touch both first and second. On top of that, the distance squad showed its strength by going 1,2,3 in the 1000 and 500 Free. The 1000 Free saw Marty Divis lead the way with teammates Amelia Peron and Shani Fridman right behind. In the 500, Marty once again led the way, this time in Pool Record fashion. Second went to Senior Captain Mary Carl, and third went to Freshman Natalie Gilbert. Prior, Carl would go on to take first in the 200 Fly with Natalie Gilbert in second. In the 200 Free, Claire Gorton would use a strong second half to pick up the win by exactly three seconds. Megan Jackson would join in on the golds by taking the 50 free, leading start to finish.

She would trade up from sprinting to the 200 back to take second in a lifetime best performance (2:09.11). The event win and pool record would go to Natalie Killion with a time of 2.03.51. Earlier, in the 100 Back, she threw down a 56.34. Earning herself another Pool Record, Alaina Pitton had a banner day with Pool Records in the 100 and 200 Breast. In the later event, teammate Ola Bodyl and My-Ky Vo finished in a close finish for third. Shani Fridman would take her lifetime best finish in the 1000  by taking the top position in the 100 Fly by over 2 seconds. Peron and Gilbert would make yet another appearance. This time by going 1-2 in the 200 IM. Prior, Peron touched first in the 100 Free. To close off the afternoon, Gorton, Jackson, Pitton, and Killion teamed up to win the 200 Free Relay while Fridman, Vo, Warriner, and Near just got beat out for second by the Le Moyne A relay.

The Men's meet saw the Purple Eagles coming up just short on the side of a back-and-forth battle.

Sophomore Vilem Mikula led the charge with victories in the 100 and 200 Back. Both those events proved to be big for points, with Niagara taking the Top 3 spots in each race. The 100 saw Mikula touch first, followed by Holden Brock and Owen Stoneburgh. In the 200, it was Brock once again with a stellar second-place outing, and Sam Dalinis taking third.

Distance specialist Logan Osterwise claimed his first collegiate victory in the 1000 Free. Teammate James Coyne cruised to a second-place finish behind him. Not too long after, Metro Champion Ethan Hunter showed his grit, coming from behind to take the 200 Fly (1:53.42), just missing a pool record by hundredths. After the first break, Senior Nate Eaton raced a hard-fought 100 Free to earn second. In the 500 Free, Jordan Grab finished second in an exciting race coming down to the wire. Teammates Ethan Jones and Logan Osterwise were second and third. Jones traded his sprint shoes to go up in distance, and it did not disappoint with his 4:51.85 clocking in a lifetime best. The 200 IM trio needed to come up big at the end to give the relays a shot, and that they did. Thomas Latimer, Michael Levine, and Elliot Burgos finished 1,2,3. All touching by over 5 second from the closest competitor. The Purple Eagle Relays needed a 1-2 finish at the end, but came up just short.
