Purple Eagles Drop Middle Game Against Eagles

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara baseball team fell in the second game of a three game set against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Despite Niagara scoring first the Eagles came away with a 12-2 win.
Game Recap
  • Marcus Cashman started on the mound for the Purple Eagles, he went five fulling innings while allowing just three hits and no runs. He struckout four and opposing hitters are now hitting .219 against him this season. His ERA is now 3.65 which is the lowest on the Purple Eagles.
  • The first chance to score came for the Eagles in the top of the second. With a runner on second, Eastern Michigan singled to left, the runner from second was thrown out at home as Cole O'Connor hit Cole Tucker as the cutoff man, Tucker fired a strike to Matt Ward who tagged the runner out at home.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Nate Milk struckout swinging but reached first on a while pitch. Milk then advanced to second on a pickoff attempt that was miss played by the first basemen. Gavin Schrader moved Milk to third on a ground out to the second basemen. With the lineup turning over, Nick Groves singled up the middle to drive in Milk for the first run of the game.
  • Eastern Michigan took the lead in the top of the sixth as they scored twice. They added to their lead in the seven as three Eagles crossed the plate. In the eighth they scored six runs to make it a 10 run game at 11-1.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Kelly Corled singled. On the next pitch Tucker roped one to right center that drove Corl in for the second Niagara run.
  • Eastern Michigan added another run in the top of the ninth.
Niagara Notes
  • The top three hitters in the Niagara lineup were responsible for all the Niagara hits as Tucker had two while Corl and Groves each had one.
  • Cashman's 3.65 ERA is the second best ERA in the MAAC. His opposing batting average is the second best in the MAAC as well.
  • Groves is second in the MAAC in on-base percentage at .500, the freshman is hitting .320 and has set a program record for walks as he has 43 this season.
