Niagara Closes Weekend Set With EMU

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara baseball team dropped the series finale against non-conference opponent Eastern Michigan on Sunday by a score of 12-5.
Game Recap
  • Just like on Saturday, the Purple Eagles struck first. Cole O'Connor reached on an error with one out in the bottom of the second. Nate Milk then drew a six pitch walk to put runners on first and second. Two pitches later, Gavin Schrader singled up the middle and drove in O'Connor for the first run of the game. After the play, the game went into a 20-minute rain delay.
  • Eastern Michigan responded in the top of the third inning as they took a 2-1 lead. They added their third run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Schrader drove in his second run of the game as he drove in Nate Milk from second base. Later in the inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Max Giordano drew a walk to tie the game at three.
  • The Eagles scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to take the 5-3 lead. They added their sixth run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 6-3.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Milk opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. After a walk to Nick Groves, Kelly Corl grounded into a fielder's choice, the Eagle second basemen made a throwing error on the play that allowed Milk to score on the play. After six innings, Niagara trailed 6-3.
  • Eastern Michigan scored six runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to take a 12-4 lead.
  • Niagara added a run in the bottom of the ninth as Cole Tucker drove in Corl on a groundout.
Niagara Notes
  • Ryan Minckler started on the mound for the Purple Eagles, he went 4.1 innings while allowing just two earned runs while striking out a career high seven batters.
  • Marty Cole went 1.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two.
  • Adam Smith pitched the ninth inning, he did not allow a hit or a run while striking out two.
  • Schrader notched his seventh multi hit game of the season while driving in his 21st and 22nd RBI of his freshman season.
  • Groves stole his 18th base of the season which is tied for the second most in the MAAC this season.
  • Tucker hit his 11th double of the season which gives him the team lead.

  • The Purple Eagles are scheduled to host St. Bonaventure on Tuesday in a doubleheader, first pitch is slated for 2 PM.
