Purple Eagles Fall To Fairfield On The Road

Fairfield, CT—The Niagara baseball team fell to the Fairfield Stags 21-8 on Saturday in the second game of a three game weekend series.
Game Recap
  • The Stags opened the scoring in the second innings and added six runs in the third to take a 7-0 lead after three innings. They added on in the fourth and made it 9-0.
  • In the top of the fifth Matt Ward notched the teams first hit with a double to center with one out. Just two pitches later Gavin Schrader went to the opposite field and hit his fourth homer of the season to make it 9-2.
  • Fairfield responded in the bottom of the fifth with eight runs to make it a 17-2 game.
  • Cole Tucker opened the sixth inning with a solo homer. With one out in the inning, Max Giordano was hit by a pitch and Josh Marchese walked to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout, Schrader doubled to right field and drove in Giordano, Marchese scored on an error for the fifth Purple Eagle run. After a Brady Desjardins walk and pitching change, Nick Groves doubled down the left field line and drove in Schrader. On the very next pitch, Corl doubled down the right field line and drove in Desjardins, Groves scored on an error to make it 17-8.
  • Fairfield scored their 18th run in the bottom of the sixth and added three more in the bottom of the eighth.
Niagara Notes
  • Both Groves and Schrader had two hits in the game. Five of the seven Niagara hits were extra base hits.
  • Liam Reynolds had a clean inning out of the bullpen as he struckout two batters while getting a flyout.
  • Four players drove in runs with Schrader driving in three, it is his fifth multi RBI game of his freshman season.
