Niagara Suffers 12-8 Setback at Colgate

HAMILTON, NY – The Niagara women's lacrosse program suffered a 12-8 setback to Colgate Sunday afternoon to move to 3-1 on the season.
 
Rachel Crane (3), Lois Garlow (2), Andra Savage (2) and Lucy Rugaber (1) each found the back of the net in the loss.
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• Colgate dominated the first 10-minutes of action, scoring six unanswered to start the contest.
• Garlow and Crane would each score their first tallies of the contest to trim the deficit to four by the end of the quarter.
 
Second Quarter
• Colgate would go up 7-2 3:50 into the second quarter.
• Rugaber would control a pass from Riley Latray and find the back of the net to make it a four-goal game, before Crane put NU down by three, 7-4 with 6:59 remaining, her second of the contest.
• Niagara would trim the Raider lead to three before the end of the half as Garlow scored her second of the contest with 1:05 remaining on the clock, a woman-up goal for Niagara.
 
Third Quarter
• Colgate would go back up by four, 9-5, with a goal at the 5:13 mark of the third quarter.
• With 2:31 remaining in the frame, Savage would beat the Colgate keeper for her first tally of the contest, putting NU down 9-6.
 
Fourth Quarter
• The Raiders would score their 10th goal of the contest at the 14:09 mark of the final stanza.
• The Purple and White would respond with two unanswered to get with two goals.
• The first tally came from Savage, her second of the contest, followed by Crane's third and final goal of the game to make it a 10-8 contest.
• The Raiders would add two more to give the game its 12-8 final.
 
Niagara Notes
• The Purple Eagles fall to 0-3 all-time against Colgate.
• The Purple and White picked up 11 ground balls, led by Maddie Smith who had two.
• Niagara forced six of Colgate's 12 turnovers, with six different Purple Eagles causing a turnover.
• Savage led NU with six draw controls, followed by four from Kendall Schneider.
• Niagara was a perfect 13-for-13 on clear attempts.

• The Purple Eagles return home for their first of two home games Thursday, March 2 when they host Youngstown State for a 2 p.m. draw.
