Niagara Drops Weekend Opener To Bentley

Waltham, Mass—The Niagara hockey team fell to Bentley 6-2 on Friday night to open the two-game series.

First Period

Niagara opened the scoring just 2:44 into the game as Glebs Prohorenkovs scored his first goal of the season. Bentley turned the puck over in their own end and Carter Randklev picked up the loose puck. Randklev cut the middle of the ice and as he fell to the ice, he slid the puck to Prohorenkovs. Prohorenkovs went to his backhand beat the sprawling goalie to his five hole. It was Randklev's fourth assist of the season.

Bentley responded at the 5:33 mark of the period as they scored on the power play. Bentley took the 2-1 lead at the 10:29 mark and then doubled their lead at the 16:52 mark of the period.

Second Period

Niagara once again scored first in the period as Luke Mylymok scored his second goal in as many games on the power play. With the power play set up in the Bentley zone, Alex Murray passed it Josef Mysak who found Mylymok in the high slot. Mylymok beat the netminder five hole for his second goal as a Purple Eagle. Mysak picked up his fifth assist of the season while it was Murray's first assist as a Purple Eagle.

Bentley responded just over 11 minutes later to take the two-goal lead back, after two periods Niagara trailed 4-2.

The Purple Eagles outshot the Falcons 13-6 in the second period. Niagara also went 15-7 in the faceoff circle in the middle frame.

Third Period

Bentley scored a pair of goals in the third period as Niagara could not claw their way back in the final period.

Shots were tied at eight in the third period.

Niagara Notes

·       Niagara blocked a season high 22 shots, 14 players blocked a shot against the Falcons. Mysak had a game high four blocks.

·       Niagara had 29 shots on goal, it was the fifth game in which they had 25 or more shots.

·       Prohorenkovs went 14-7 in the faceoff dot.

·       Ryan Ouellette made 15 saves in the first period. Mitchell Day played the second and third periods and made 11 saves.

·       Niagara has now scored on the power play in three straight games and have five power play goals in their last five games.

The Purple Eagles look for a split on Saturday as they take on Bentley at 4 PM.
