NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (3-9-2, 2-3-2 MAAC) exploded for six goals as it upended Saint Peter's (3-8-0, 1-5-0 MAAC) Wednesday afternoon in MAAC women's soccer action from Niagara Field.
Senior
Emma Bough netted two goals to lead a brigade of five different goal scorers for the Purple Eagles. Sophomore goalie
Agnes Stenlund stopped four shots for her second clean sheet of the season.
How it Happened
Niagara opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the contest when
Isabella Mazzaferro found Bough in front and the senior swiped it home for her first goal of the afternoon.
Saint Peter's would look to tie the game in the ninth and 11th minutes of play, however Stenlund was there to make the save and keep NU in front early on.
The Purple Eagle offense would stay on the gas in the first half, recording 11 shots, seven of which were on goal, however, NU would only go into the break with a 1-0 lead over SPU.
It didn't take long for NU to find the back of the net in the second half as freshman
Caitlyn Grady scored her first career goal from about 25 yards out and past an outstretched Peacock goalie.
In the 73rd minute of action, Mazzaferro would go upper 90 to give the Purple and White a 3-0 lead over the Peacocks.
Five minutes later,
Katie Diem and
Trinity Meinhart would team up to find
Emily Hahnel in the box, leading to the fifth-year's third goal of the season and NU's fourth of the contest.
Bough would find the back of the net for the second time in the 80th minute, followed by Niagara's sixth and final goal of the afternoon of the foot of
Amanda Cripps one minute later.
Niagara would hold on for the clean sheet and three points in the standings heading into its final three games of the season.
