Niagara Notches 2-1 Road Win Over Manhattan

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (4-9-2, 3-3-2 MAAC) won its second-straight game with a 2-1 victory on the road over Manhattan (3-7-2, 2-4-2 MAAC) Saturday afternoon in MAAC women's soccer action from Niagara Field. Sophia Guagliano and Emily Hähnel scored the goals for the Purple and White.

How it Happened
Manhattan took an early lead in the 14th minute of action, beating Agnes Stenlund on its third shot of the contest.

It wouldn't take long for NU to respond, as the Purple and White corner led to Guagliano's goal in the 28th minute of play as the transfer launched one past the Manhattan keeper to tie the game.

Maia MacLean and Hähnel would each have shots saved by the Jasper goalie in the ensuing 15-miuntes of action, however a foul was called on Manhattan inside the penalty area, leading to a penalty kick opportunity for Hähnel. The German midfielder would give the Purple Eagles the lead with her second penalty kick goal of the season, beating the goalie to the left.

Niagara would look to make it a two-goal advantage before the break as Amanda Cripps took two shots on target, both of which were thwarted by the Manhattan goalie, keeping it a 2-1 game in favor of NU at the intermission.

Stenlund would make her second save of the contest in the 48th minute as the Jaspers tried to even the score off a corner. The Swedish keeper would go on to make two more saves in the half as Manhattan was only able to put a trio of shots on target.

Emma Bough nearly scored her third goal of the week in the 81st minute, but her shot attempt was met by the crossbar, keeping the Niagara lead at 2-1 for the final 10-minutes of action.

Stenlund's final save of the game came in the 84th minute and the keeper would see two more shots from the Jaspers, neither of which threatened Niagara's lead as time expired.
