BUFFALO, NY – The Niagara men's and women's swimming & diving programs dominated Canisius Saturday afternoon, picking up wins on both sides.
The women won 219-79, while the men picked up a 201-93 win over the Golden Griffins.
Women's Recap
• The Purple and White won 13 of the 16 events on the afternoon.
• The day began with the Purple Eagles taking the top-three spots in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Megan Smith, Amanda Silva, Zoe Gavin and Paige South won the event with a score of 1:45.42.
• Avery King picked up Niagara's first individual win of the day with a time of 10:29.15 in the 1000 free, followed by Allison Stoehr in second with a time of 11:00.32. King would later win the 500 free with a time of 5:08.54.
• Moana Houde-Camirand edged the Griffs in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.86.
• Maddie Hudson continued Niagara's great start to the afternoon with a time of 58.88 to win the 100 back. Ania Bodyl finished second in the event.
• In the 100 breast, Silva took first place with a time of 1:06.35, followed by Kathryn Brady in second with a mark of 1:06.71.
• The reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week, Zoe Gavin, won the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.82. Gavin also won the 100 fly with a time of 56.82.
• Niagara swept the top-3 spots in the 50 free, with South winning the event with a time of 24:05. Lila Maddux and Nia Thomas finished second and third, respectively.
• Canisius picked up its first win of the afternoon on the 1-meter board. Sydney Sarkis finished second with a score of 229.28. Morgan MacMahon finished third with a score of 213.83.
• South won her second individual event of the afternoon with a time of 52.37 in the 100 free. Houde-Camirand followed in second place.
• The 200 back saw Hudson win her second event of the day, posting a time of 2:04.78. The Purple Eagles took the top-4 spots in the event.
• Brady notched a win in the 200 breast, finishing with a time of 2:23.93. She would later finish second in the 100 IM with a time of 1:01.63.
• Sarkis and MacMahon once again finished second and third in the 3-meter board, with scores of 227.55 and 212.63, respectively.
• The Purple Eagles capped off the afternoon taking the top-2 spots in the 400 free relay. South, Gavin, Nia Thomas, and Houde-Camirand posted a time of 3:32.10, eight seconds ahead of the other Purple Eagle quartet.
Men's Recap
• The men's team won 15 of 16 events en route to its second-straight dual meet.
• Riley Dafoe, Tannar Isaacs, Gio Germano and Levi Morgan got the day started with a win in the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:32.14.
• Nathan Dragon took first place in the 1000 free with a time of 9:40.81. Dragon would go on to win the 500 free with a time of 4:39.36.
• In the 200 free, Reid Tichy earned the top spot with a time of 1:41.07. The sophomore would later win the 200 free with a time of 1:54.99.
• Gio Germano continued his strong January with a time of 51.68 in the 100 back. He would also win the the 100 fly with a time of 49.44.
• Jake Lauzonis edged teammate Sean Finley for the win in the 100 breast, clocking in at 57.04. Finely would later win the 200 back with a time of 2:05.24.
• Niagara took the top-4 spots in the 50 free, highlighted by Kevin Vu who won the event with a time of 20.67.
• John Furner received a score of 268.65 to win the 1-meter event. The sophomore later picked up a score of 311.63 in the 3-meter event to sweep the men's diving events.
• Morgan added to Niagara's win total with a time of 45.98 in the 100 free.
• The 100 IM resulted in Finley winning his second event of the afternoon with a time of 52.90.
• The Purple and White would take the 400 free relay with a time of 3:06.35 to cap off the day for NU.
