Purple Eagles Drop Dual Meet to Cleveland State

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Cleveland State men's and women's swimming & diving swept Niagara Friday afternoon at Oxy Aquatic Center. The Niagara men fell 130-100, and the women were edged by the Vikings, 121-116.
 
Women's Recap
• The Purple Eagles afternoon was highlighted by wins in the 200 medley relay, the 200 IM and 100 fly.
Paige South, Amanda Silva, Zoe Gavin and Nia Thomas posted a time of 1:49.15 to win the 200 medley relay.
• Sophomore Megan Smith won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.56. She also finished second in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.07, and third in the 100 breast at 1:08.85.
• The Purple Eagles took the top two spots in the 100 fly as Gavin won the event with a time of 59.29 and Kreeger followed with a time of 1:00.85.
Sydney Sarkis finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, with scores of 201.60 and 199.58, respectively.
• Silva added to her win in the relay with a second-place finish in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:08.28, .02 seconds behind the winner.
• South, the reigning MAAC Swimmer of the Week, finished with a time of 24.41 in the 50 free to take second, followed by a third-place finish in the 100 free.
 
Men's Recap
• The Purple Eagles afternoon was highlight by a sweep of the top-three spots in the 50 free. Kevin Vu win the event with a time of 21.00, followed by Levi Morgan and Gio Germano with times of 21.62 and 21.87, respectively.
• Furner won both diving events, posting scores of 272.03 and 165.45, on the 1- and 3-meter boards, respectively.
Nathan Dragon and Reid Tichy went back-to-back in the 100 free, posting times of 47.01 and 47.29.
Sean Finley collected a second-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 58.54.
• In the 200-medley relay, Germano, Finley, Vu and Dragon finished with a time of 1:34,14, for second place.
• Germano finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 51.02.
 
Up Next
• Niagara will host Waterloo on Saturday, Jan. 14 at noon. Prior to the meet, Niagara will honor its two seniors, Kevin Vu and Morgan MacMahon.
