Ibey Scores Twice in Win Over Akron

AKRON, OHIO – Fifth-year Purple Eagle Annie Ibey found the back of the net twice as NU (3-3-0) defeated Akron (1-1-2) 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action from FirstEnergy Field in Akron, Ohio. Sophomore goalkeeper Felicia Grufman stopped four shots to pick up her second clean sheet of the season. 
 
Game Recap
First Half
• Junior Emma Bough put the game's first shot in the second minute, but the attempt went wide left of the net. 
• After putting a shot on net in the 10th minute that resulted in a corner for NU, Bough took another chance to get the Purple and White on the board, but the Akron goalie saved the attempt. 
Felicia Grufman, who made her fifth start in goal, saw five shots in the first half. 
• Niagara took their second corner of the half in the 33rd minute, but the game would remain tied at NU.  
Annie Ibey came off the bench in the 31st minute and found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give NU a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Maia MacLean was the one to feed Ibey for the goal.
 
Second Half
Ida Miceli nearly gave NU a 2-0 lead over the Zips, but her shot would go off the top of the woodwork, keeping the score 1-0. 
• MacLean put one high of the goal in the 64th minute, her first shot of the contest. 
• Ibey went bottom center in the 70th minute but was denied by the Zip keeper. 
• Grufman made her first save of the contest in the 71st minute to keep Akron off the board. 
• The Niagara goalie would stop two shots in a minute, moving her total for the game to three and keeping Akron scoreless through 80-minutes of action. 
• Ibey found the back of the net after getting a pass from Emily Hähnel in the 82nd minute, giving NU a 2-0 lead. 
 
Niagara Notes
• Thursday marked the sixth meeting all-time between NU and Akron. 
• Ibey recorded the 21st and 22nd goals of her career in the 43rd and 82nd minute, respectively, giving her sole possession of ninth all-time in program history. 
• Ibey's multi-goal game is the fourth of her career. 
• Grufman recorded four saves en route to her second clean sheet of the season.
