Purple Eagles Blanked by Saint Francis

LORETTA, PA. – A first half goal was all Saint Francis would need to defeat Niagara Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Purple Eagles fall to 3-4 overall on the season, while SFU improved to 2-6.
 
Game Recap
First Half
• Niagara's first chance came when Emma Bough sent a free kick opportunity wide of the net in the 7th minute.
Maia MacLean would take a shot shortly thereafter but it was saved by the Saint Francis goalie, Sarah McConnon.
• The Red Falsh would score first, a centering ball from the right side found Colletta Ozbey who beat Agnes Stenlund for the goal.
Amanda Cripps put a stellar chance on goal in the 39th minute, but McConnon made the leaping stop to keep the score 1-0 in her team's favor.
 
Second Half
Djeynaba Thiam had a golden opportunity to tie it but she would tap one wide left of the goal early in the second half.
Ida Miceli and Emily Hähnel also recorded shots in the second half but both found the hands of McConnon.
• Niagara would keep the pressure on as the end of the game approached, trying to find the equalizer, including a shot from Annie Ibey that was gobbled up.
 
Niagara Notes
• Sunday marked the fifth meeting all-time between NU and SFU with the Purple Eagles falling to 3-2 against the Red Flash.
• Niagara recorded six shots, including a team-high two from Emma Bough.
• Stenlund finished with three saves bringing her season total to 11.
• The Purple Eagles posted a game high five corners.

• Niagara will conclude a four-game road swing with its MAAC opener on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Hamden, Conn., against Quinnipiac.
