Niagara Comeback Falls Short at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Cleveland State Vikings would hold on for a 3-2 win over Niagara (2-3) Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. Transfers Amanda Cripps and Claudia Cuicani scored the goals for Niagara late in the second half of play. 

Game Recap
First Half
Emma Davies put the game's first shot on goal in the 10th minute, but it was kick-saved by the Viking keeper. 
• Transfer Emily Hähnel hit the post on a long-distance attempt in the 11th minute. 
• Cleveland State's Kathryn Ramicone found the back of the net in the 34th minute to take a 1-0 lead over NU. 
• In the 44th minute, sophomore Maia MacLean sent a ball into the box that found the head of Nikki van Wees but ended up wide of the net. 

Second Half
• Freshman Agnes Stenlund took over in goal for Niagara to start the second half. 
• MacLean and Hahnel nearly evened the score in the 46th minute, but both were off target. 
• Ramicone headed in a cross in the 57th minute to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead over the Purple Eagles. 
• Cleveland State would make it a three-goal lead in the 60th minute with a goal off the foot of Maddie Young. 
• The Purple Eagles worked the ball to Annie Ibey, who nearly got one back for the Purple Eagles, but the shot went just wide of the goal. 
• Niagara finally found the back of the net in the 79th minute when an Annie Ibey cross found  Cripps for the tally. 
• Cuicani would find the back of the net again in the 82nd minute of play to put NU down by one, 3-2, with eight minutes to go. 

Niagara Notes
• NU drops to 5-3 all-time against Cleveland State after Sunday's contest. 
• Cripps now has a goal in each of the last three games, and is pacing the squad with three tallies on the season while also leading the team with seven points. 
• Cuicani's goal in the 82nd minute was the first of the grad transfer's career. 
• Ibey registered the assist on Cripps' goal, giving her a team-high two on the year. 
• The Purple and White took two corners and put six of their 18 shots on goal in the loss.

• The Purple Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Akron, Ohio for a battle with the Zips.
