Bobcats Defeat Niagara, 4-0

HAMDEN, CONN. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats (5-1-1, 1-0-0 MAAC) picked up a 4-0 win over Niagara (3-5-0, 0-1-0) Saturday afternoon to open MAAC women's soccer action. 
 
Game Recap
First Half
• Niagara quickly put pressure on Quinnipiac as Emma Bough took the game's first shot less than a minute into play. The shot didn't find the back of the net but gave NU a corner opportunity. 
• Starting goalie Felicia Grufman was tested in the fifth minute of play as Quinnipiac got its first shot off for the game. 
• Bough would put a shot on goal in the eighth minute of action, this one saved by the Bobcat keeper, Meghan Phillips. 
Emma Davies would put one wide left of the goal minutes later as NU kept the early pressure on. 
• Niagara would outshoot Quinnipiac 3-2 for the remainder of the first half as the game would remain tied 0-0 at the break. 
 
Second Half
• Quinnipiac would score in the 48th minute via a penalty kick goal by Courtney Chochol.
• Davies would be sent off in the 59th minute, putting Niagara a player down for the remainder of the game. 
• Quinnipiac score its second goal in the 69th minute, this one off the foot of Rebecca Cooke.
• The Bobcats would add two more in 27 seconds to take a commanding 4-0 lead over NU. 
Amanda Cripps took the lone shot for Niagara in the 51st minute of play in the second half. 
• The Purple Eagles did take a corner in the second half, but the set piece did not result in a scoring chance for NU. 
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara falls to 3-6-1 all-time against Quinnipiac. 
• The Purple Eagles took eight shots with just one attempt going on target. 
• Niagara finished the game with three corners.
• Grufman finished with three saves. 
 
Up Next
• The Purple and White will return home to Niagara Field on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it hosts Manhattan for their first MAAC home game at noon.
