Niagara Splits First Day at Hofstra Invitational

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Niagara volleyball earned a split on day one of the Hofstra Invitational, falling to the host Pride in straight sets and sweeping Bryant later in the day in non-conference volleyball action.
 
Game Recap: Hofstra
• Niagara fell, 20-25, 23-25 and 18-25 against the host Hofstra Pride to kickoff the Hofstra Invitational.
• The Pride finished the match with a .490 kill percentage and .337 hitting percentage.
• Niagara freshman Kinga Wronska posted a team-best seven kills, with a .412 kill percentage and .235 hitting percentage. The first-year Purple Eagle also picked up two assists and nine digs.
• Senior Taylor Allen had six kills and three block assists in the match.
Casey Brown totaled nine assists and libero Bella Peroni finished with seven digs.
• As a team, NU posted a .279 kill percentage and .105 hitting percentage.
 
Game Recap: Bryant
• Niagara rebounded in game two of the invitational, picking up a sweep of the Bryant Bulldogs, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-12.
• Wronska built on her performance from earlier in the day, recording a team-high 20 kills and two block assists. The freshman finished with a .317 hitting percentage as each Purple Eagle posted a positive percentage in the win.
• Brown recorded 24 assists, followed by sophomore Kelly McArthur with 13.
Lexi Bapst put together a six kill, 15 dig performance in the match.
• As a team, Niagara hit .244 and a .361 kill percentage.
 
Niagara Notes
• The win over Bryant marks first-year head coach Ren Cefra's first career win.
• Niagara averaged 11.5 kills, 10.8 assists, and 12.3 digs per set over the two matches.
• The Purple Eagles picked up a total of 16 block assists and three solo blocks on the day, led by Allen's five block assists and two solo blocks.
• Wronska averaged 4.5 kills per set in her first two career matches, picking up a team-high 20 kills in the match against Bryant.
• Brown and McArthur totaled 33 and 22 assists, respectively.
• Niagara finished the day with nine service aces, including three from Peroni and two by McArthur.
• The sweep of Bryant was NU's first straight set win since Oct. 31, 2021 against Manhattan.
