Cefra was named the head coach of the Niagara women's volleyball program in March of 2022. 

In 2024, Cefra led Niagara to a 15-15 record including a 15-14 regular season record. Cefra went 11-7 in MAAC play while earning the six seed in the MAAC Postseason. In 2023, Niagara once again led the MAAC in blocking with 267.5 total blocks in 107 sets while averaging 2.50 blocks per set. Both Bella Peroni and Laryssa Imbuzeiro earned All-MAAC honors as Peroni was named MAAC Libero of the Year and tabbed to the All-MAAC Second Team Imbuzeiro was also named MAAC Second Team. Niagara completed season sweeps of Marist, Siena and Manhattan.

In 2023, Cefra posted a 13-14 record including a 13-13 regular season record. After going 7-11 in MAAC play in 2022, Cefra won 12 matches in MAAC play while earning the four seed in the MAAC Postseason. In 2023, Niagara led the MAAC in blocking with 231.0 total blocks in 91 sets while averaging 2.54 blocks per set. Both Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Janiah Robinson earned All-MAAC honors as Imbuzeiro was named MAAC Second Team and Robinson was named to the All-Rookie Team. Niagara completed season sweeps of Iona, Manhattan, Canisius, Saint Peter's, and Siena.

In his first season on the ridge, he led the Purple Eagles to a 10-20 overall record while also going 7-11 in conference play. Cefra earned his first win as a head coach in his second match as the Purple Eagles defeated Bryant in straight sets. The Purple Eagles opened MAAC play with a win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 17. Niagara opened the MAAC Championship with a 3-1 win over Saint Peter's to move into the MAAC Quarterfinals against the top seeded Fairfield. Freshman Kinga Wronska was named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team following the regular season. Eight Purple Eagles were named to the MAAC All-Academic team. 

Cefra most recently served as an assistant coach at Temple University from 2015-22. In his position, he assisted with recruiting, planning and organizing team and individual training sessions, budgeting, scheduling, academic monitoring and alumni relations. He also was responsible for gathering team statistical information and live game statistics and coordinated travel, organized practice schedules and team equipment ordering.

While at Temple, the Owls were 2020 AAC Tournament runners-up and made it to the second round of the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championships. He coached eight All-AAC First Team honorees, seven All-AAC Second Team selections and the 2020 AAC Libero of the Year.

From March to July of 2015, Cefra served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Minot State University. Prior to Minot State, Cefra was the Director of Volleyball Operations at the University of Nevada – Reno from July 2014-February 2015. Cefra was a volunteer assistant coach at St. John's from 2012-14.

Cefra began his collegiate coaching career at Division II Chaminade University as an assistant coach from 2008-10. He also has almost 10 years of experience coaching at the club level and has five years of experience coaching high school volleyball.

Cefra was the recipient of the 2016 AVCA Diversity Award. Cefra has an associate's degree in liberal arts from Leeward Community College and earned a bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of Hawaii – West Oahu. He played two years of collegiate volleyball at Santa Barbara City College from 2000-02, where he was a libero.
