Softball Travels to Youngstown For Non-Conference DH with Penguins

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple and White, coming off a 4-0 MAAC weekend, heads to Youngstown, Ohio to take on the Youngstown State Penguins in a non-conference battle Tuesday afternoon.

• Niagara swept Marist and Quinnipiac at home this past weekend to start 4-0 in league play for the first time under head coach Larry Puzan.
• The Purple Eagles outscored its conference foe's 23-11 and the.
• Niagara posted a team ERA of 2.15 while the lineup registered a .380 on base percentage on the weekend.
 
Niagara Notes
• On the season, Niagara has a team average of .252 and ERA of 4.31.
Maggie Kellner has a team-best .365 batting average through 17 games. The sophomore enters Tuesday with a four-game hit streak. Kellner also leads the team in doubles (8), total bases (27), and slugging (.519).
Kelsey Harrigan is currently on a six game on base streak and a team-best on-base percentage of .450. Harrigan also leads the team in runs scored (12), while ranking second in hits (18), and doubles (6).
Riley Crum hit her first home run of the season on Saturday against Marist, joining Samantha Hare as the only Purple Eagles to hit round trippers this season. Hare has a team-high three home runs this season.
• Crum has also worked a team-high nine walks this season.
• In the circle, Crum has started six games, posting a 1.99 ERA over 24.2 innings pitched. Crum went 2-0 in the circle this past weekend.
Maddie Hickingbottom has made eight starts in her first season as a Purple Eagle. The transfer has a 7.29 ERA and has struck out a team-high 44 batters.
• Out of the bullpen, Julia Thompson picked up two saves this past weekend, closing the door to help NU earn its first sweep of Marist since 2008.

• Niagara and YSU have met 28 times since 2003, with the Penguins leading the series 18-6.
• The two teams last met in 2019 with the Penguins taking both games on Monteagle Ridge.
