Purple Eagles Topple Marist to Remain Unbeaten at Home

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple Eagles took the lead late in the second and never looked back en route to a 16-10 thrashing of Marist (2-11, 0-5 MAAC) Wednesday afternoon in MAAC women's lacrosse action at Niagara Field. 

Nine Purple Eagles found the back of the net, and the Niagara (8-5, 4-1 MAAC) goalies combined for 15 saves in the win. 

Game Recap
First Quarter
• Marist jumped out to an early 4-1 lead over the Purple Eagles following a four-goal that spanned 3:16 of game time. 
• A free position goal from Jaclyn Crane would end the Red Foxes' run and cut the lead in half, 4-2, with 1:52 left in the first. 

Second Quarter
• Marist would go back up by three with a goal at the 13:30 mark of the second before Niagara scored four straight over the next 6:42 to take a 6-5 lead. 
Lexi Braniecki scored twice during the Purple Eagle run in the frame, while Rachel Crane and Lois Garlow each found the back of the net once. 
• Marist would tie the game at the 5:00 mark, and the score would remain 6-6 for the next 44 seconds before Andra Savage scored on a free position attempt to give Niagara the lead. 
• Another Purple and White free position goal, this one from Rachel Crane, gave Niagara an 8-6 lead going into the break. 

Third Quarter
• Niagara would strike first in the second half when Garlow found Allison McCormick for the tally, giving Niagara a 9-6 advantage 2:03 into the third. 
• After Marist made it a two-goal game with a goal at the 11:26 run, the Purple and White would strike again for three straight. 
• Savage tallied her second while Lucy Rugaber and Eliza Wild added their names to the scoring column to give NU a 12-7 lead with five to go in the third.
• With the score 12-8, Niagara would tack on two goals before the period came to an end to take a 14-8 lead into the final 15-minutes of play. 
Rachel Crane and Garlow each recorded their third goal of the contest to give NU the six-goal lead. 

Fourth Quarter
• Niagara made it an eight-goal game 6:51 into the fourth after scoring two straight to begin the stanza. 
Brenna Duffy joined the party with her first goal of the game, and Garlow registered her game-high fourth tally. 
• Marist would score the game's final two goals, but the Niagara lead was insurmountable as the Purple Eagles coasted to a 16-10 victory. 

Niagara Notes
• Niagara improves to 4-1 in league play with the win and is now 3-0 at home, matching its 2016 start at home. 
• Niagara's best start at home came during the 2004 season, a 4-0 start on Monteagle Ridge. 
• The Purple and White are now 6-1 this season when leading heading into the fourth. 
• Niagara's senior netminder Michelle Messenger made 13 saves, her fifth-straight game with double-digit saves. 
• Senior Maren Geiger played the final five minutes of the contest, making two stops. 
• Garlow registered her 11th multi-goal game of the contest and sixth with at least four. 
Rachel Crane picked up her fourth-straight game with at least three goals. 
• Braniecki picked up two assists on the afternoon, her second multi-assist game this season.
• Niagara caused nine turnovers, won 14 draws, and went 20-21 on clear attempts. 
Jess Foley recorded two caused turnovers and had a team-best five ground balls.
