BALTIMORE, Md. – The Purple Eagles (1-10) were swept in a doubleheader by the UMBC Retrievers (4-6) on Saturday. UMBC took game one, 4-2, and game two, 7-4.
Game 1 – UMBC 4, Niagara 2 (7 innings)
Game Recap
- The Purple Eagles took a quick 1-0 lead over UMBC after an RBI single from Cole Tucker in the top of the first inning.
- The Retrievers, however, tied things up, 1-1, in the bottom of the first inning.
- A solo homerun from UMBC in the bottom of the third put the Retrievers in the lead, 2-1.
- The Retrievers added two runs in the fifth inning to take a three-run lead, 4-1.
- In the top of the seventh, an RBI single from Cole O'Connor left Niagara trailing by just two runs, 4-2, but UMBC earned the seven-inning win.

Game Recap
- In the top of the second inning, Eli Selby scored an unearned run to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead over the Retrievers.
- Marchese hit his third homerun of the season in the top of the third, blasting a two-run homer over the fence to put NU ahead, 3-0.
- A sacrifice fly from Nick Castellana in the top of the third scored Benny Serrano to give the Purple Eagles a 4-0 lead over UMBC.
- The Retrievers scored three runs in the fourth inning, but NU still had the lead, 4-3.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Retrievers tied the score, 4-4.
- UMBC added three runs in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead over the Purple Eagles.
- Niagara went down in order in the eighth and ninth and UMBC swept the day's games.
Eagle's Eye On
- Desjardins led NU with two hits. O'Connor, Marchese, Serrano and Selby each added one.
- Marchese led the team in RBIs with two.
- Marcus Cashman started on the mound. He struck out two and allowed three earned runs on two hits in a 3.1 inning no-decision.
- Chaz DeLuca (0-1) took the loss. He fanned five and gave up four earned runs on four hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
