Niagara Downed By George Washington

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Niagara baseball team (2-14) fell to George Washington (9-10), 18-3, in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles and the Colonials were scoreless until the fourth inning, when George Washington took a 4-0 lead over NU.
  • A solo homerun from the Colonials in the bottom of the fifth extended their lead, 5-0.
  • Brady Desdjardins had the first hit of the game for the Purple Eagles in the top of the sixth, singling to right field. He got into scoring position, advancing to second on a groundout and to third on a wild pitch, but NU remained scoreless.
  • The Purple Eagles turned a double play to end the sixth inning, keeping the George Washington lead at 5-0.
  • Cole O'Connor hit a lead-off double to left center to open the seventh inning. Cole Tucker then singled, scoring O'Connor to put NU on the board. Benny Serrano hit a two-run homerun, cutting the Colonials' lead to just two runs, 5-3, going into the home half of inning.
  • The Colonials, however, added four runs in the bottom of the seventh to get ahead of NU by six, 9-3.
  • George Washington had a big eighth inning, scoring nine runs to take an 18-3 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Niagara went down in order in the ninth and the Colonials won the second game of the series.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Desjardins, O'Connor, Tucker and Serrano combined for NU's four hits on the day.
  • Serrano led the team in RBIs with two.
  • Jacob Bruning (0-4) took the loss on the mound. He fanned six and allowed five earned runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
