ARLINGTON, Va. – The Purple Eagles (2-13) fell to George Washington (8-10), 4-2, in their series opener with the Colonials on Friday.
Game Recap
- George Washington got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles in the bottom of the first inning.
- In the top of the second, Max Giordano tripled to left field, sending Cole Tucker across the plate to even the score, 1-1.
- It was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Colonials, as both teams remained scoreless until George Washington scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim the lead, 4-1.
- In the top of the seventh, an RBI double from Cole O'Connor left Niagara trailing by just two runs, 4-2.
- The Colonials, however, held on to win, 4-2.
Eagle's Eye On
- Tucker led the Purple Eagles with three hits, which included one double.
- Giordano added two hits and one RBI for NU. O'Connor also batted in one run.
- Giordano and Tucker each had one stolen base.
- Tucker and Vincent Mauro each scored for the Purple Eagles.
- Evan Wilde (1-3) took the loss. He fanned seven in 5.2 innings pitched and gave up four runs on 10 hits.
